FAQs
I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is a place to address current issues and stressors that are affecting you. It is a process in which we can experience challenging emotions and stressors, improve connections with yourself and others, learn and practice healthy coping skills, and resolve underlying emotional pain and subsequent unwanted behaviors.
My primary style of therapy is to focus on the therapeutic relationship. That being said, I do not provide direct advice; my role is one of support, education, and challenge. You are the captain of your healing; I am your navigator. So the largest determining factor for change is you and your engagement.
How long does therapy take?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
To improve this dynamic, I regularly check in with you on your progress on the goals you set, and make changes accordingly (if appropriate).
What is teletherapy and how does it work?
While I offer in-person sessions, I also am able to meet with clients virtually. Teletherapy is an effective and efficient treatment modality to meet people’s therapeutic needs virtually. Teletherapy also provides flexibility and convenience, especially those located remotely from desired services. In order to engage in teletherapy, both video and audio streaming is required. I utilize teletherapy through Simple Practice, which has apps for IOS and Android. In my experience, the overwhelming majority of my clients are able to engage in the therapy process just as effectively and actively as in-person sessions. Contact me for more information about teletherapy and its benefits!
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, I do not accept insurance and work with private pay only.
If you have insurance, you are welcome to ask for a superbill to submit yourself to your insurance for potential reimbursement. You are ultimately responsible to ascertain if your insurance has out-of-network benefits.
What is your cancellation policy?
Any sessions canceled between 24-48 hours of your scheduled appointment will be charged half the session fee. Any appointments canceled within 24 hours or missed without proper notification will be charged the full session fee. This policy is in place to promote your engagement in the therapeutic process as well as being mindful and respectful of other clients who may be in need of services. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please contact me and we can discuss potential rescheduling.
